August 27-28

I guided both days on Red Willow Reservoir and my clients caught two Master Angler fish including a 31 ½-inch channel catfish, and a 29-inch wiper. My clients and I also caught smaller wipers between 14 and 22 inches, channel catfish between 15 and 24 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, five walleyes, three largemouth bass, and a few freshwater drum. We caught these fish on a Carolina and drop shot rig using gizzard shad and shiners, Lytle's Secret tailspinners, 5-inch flutter spoons, jigging spoons, ProMinnow swimbaits, and topwater plugs around main lake points, underwater humps, road beds, edges of a creek channel, back in a deep cove, and near the dam areas in depths of 28 feet or less. The surface water temperature is in the mid to upper 70s.

August 25-26

I fished at two different private sand pit lakes in the mid afternoon on both days. I caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 10 and 19 ½ inches using a 5-inch flutter spoon, a ProMinnow swimbait, and a Spro Bronzeye Frog around points, edges of weed beds, and underwater brush piles in depths of 20 feet or less.

August 23

My brother Tim and I fished at two different private sand pit lakes and we caught three Master Angler largemouth bass between 20 ¼ and 21 inches. We also caught good numbers of smaller largemouth bass between 11 and 19 ½ inches, and a 26-inch channel catfish. I was using a 5-inch flutter spoon, football jig with Strike King Rage craw, and ProMinnow Swimbait, and my brother was using a jig with Chompers Twin Tail Grub. We caught these fish around deep points, edges of deep flats, and underwater brush piles in depths of 20 feet or less.

August 13-15

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir all three days. My clients and I are still catching wipers, white bass, northern pike, channel catfish, and walleyes around main lake points, underwater humps, edges of a creek channel, and near the dam areas in depths of 28 feet or less. These fish were caught on Carolina and drop shot rigs with gizzard shad and shiners, Lytle's Secret tailspinners, ProMinnow swimbaits, 5-inch flutter spoons, and jigging spoons. The surface water temperature is averaging around 80 degrees.

August 11-12

I guided the same clients on both days at Red Willow Reservoir. My clients and I caught 10 Master Angler fish including four wipers at 30 ¼-, 28 ½-, 25, and 24 inches, three channel catfish at 34, 32, and 31 inches, two northern pike at 37 and 36 inches, and a 40-inch flathead catfish. We also caught smaller wipers between 14 and 22 inches, northern pike between 26 and 34 inches, channel catfish between one and six pounds, white bass up to 14 inches, crappies between 8 and 13 inches, a few largemouth bass and walleyes, and an 8-inch bluegill.

We caught these fish around main lake points, underwater humps, underwater road beds, a deep cove, edges of a creek channel, and near the dam areas in depths of 28 feet or less. We caught fish on Carolina and drop shot rigs with gizzard shad, Lytle's Secret tailspinners, 5-inch flutter spoons, ProMinnow swimbaits, and jigging spoons. The surface water temperature is averaging in the lower 80s.

August 10

I fished at Red Willow Reservoir in the afternoon and caught two Master Angler Fish including a 33-inch wiper and a 36-inch northern pike on a 5-inch flutter spoon. I also caught smaller wipers between 16 and 22 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, and a 34-inch pike using a 1-ounce Lytle's Secret tailspinner, a ProMinnow swimbait on a jighead, and flutter spoon. These fish were caught around main lake points, underwater humps, underwater roadbeds, and underwater brush piles in a deep cove. The surface water temperature is in the lower 80s.

August 9

My brother Tim and I fished at Medicine Creek Reservoir (Harry Strunk Lake) and we caught good numbers of white bass up to 15 inches and a few freshwater drum. These fish were caught around underwater humps in depths of 28 feet or less using a ¾- and 1-ounce Lytle's Secret tailspinners, a ProMinnow swimbait on a jig head, a flutter spoon, and a homemade jigging spoon.

August 8

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and my client caught a Master Angler wiper at 25 inches. My clients and I also caught smaller wipers, white bass up to 14 inches, northern pike up to 33 inches, channel catfish up to 5 pounds, plus a few walleyes and freshwater drum. We caught these fish around main lake points, underwater roadbeds, underwater humps, and edges of a creek channel in depths of 28 feet or less. We were using Carolina and drop shot rigs with gizzard shad, Lytle's Secret tailspinners, ProMinnow swimbaits on a jig head, 5-inch flutter spoons, and a 1-ounce jigging spoon. The surface water temperature is averaging around 80 degrees in the afternoon.

August 7

I guided on Swanson Reservoir and my clients and I caught white bass up to 15 ½ inches, wipers up to 22 inches, a few walleyes up to 22 inches, and good numbers of freshwater drum. We caught these fish on a Carolina rig using shiners, Lytle's Secret tailspinners, ProMinnow swimbaits, and 5-inch flutter spoons around underwater humps, roadbeds, and edges of a creek channel in depths of 25 feet or less.

August 4

My chiropractor and I fished at Red Willow Reservoir in the afternoon. We caught white bass, wipers, northern pike, largemouth bass, walleye, and freshwater drum around main lake points, underwater humps, roadbeds, edges of a creek channel, and back in a deep cove in depths of 28 feet or less using Lytle's Secret tailspinners, 5-inch flutter spoons, and ProMinnow swimbaits. The surface water temperature was averaging around 80 degrees in the mid afternoon.

August 3

I guided on Swanson Reservoir and my clients and I caught good numbers of white bass, wipers, and freshwater drum around underwater humps, roadbeds, and edges of a creek channel in depths of 25 feet or less. We caught these fish on ¾- and 1-ounce Lytle's Secret tailspinners, 3-, 4-, and 5-inch flutter spoons, homemade jigging spoons, ProMinnow swimbaits, and a Carolina and drop shot rig using gizzard shad. The surface water temperature was in the upper 70s in the morning and in the lower 80s by late afternoon.

Augusts 2

I took my two brothers and a friend fishing at Swanson Reservoir. We caught good numbers of white bass, wipers, and freshwater drum around underwater humps, roadbeds, and edges of a creek channel in depths of 28 feet or less using Lytle's Secret tailspinners, ProMinnow swimbaits, 3-, 4-, and 5-inch flutter spoons, homemade jigging spoons, and live baits. The surface water temperature is in the upper 70s.

August 1

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and my clients and I caught channel catfish, white bass, wipers, and a perch on a Carolina and a drop shot rig using gizzard shad and shiners, Lytle's Secret tailspinners, ProMinnow swimbaits, and  5-inch flutter spoons. We caught these fish around main lake points, underwater humps, and roadbeds in depths of 28 feet or less.
