APRIL 2009

April 30

I took my chiropractor fishing at Red Willow Reservoir in the afternoon, and he caught a nice Master Angler wiper at 27 inches. We also caught over 20 wipers between 16 and 23 inches, and white bass up to 14 inches around the flats next to the creek channel or near deep water in depths of 15 feet or less using jerkbaits and 4-and 5-inch swimbaits. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s, and the water clarity is very clear.

April 27-29

I fished at three different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon for a few hours. I caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 12 and 19 inches, and a small walleye using 4- and 5-inch swimbaits around points, flats next to the deep water, edges of weed beds, and next to underwater brush piles in depths of 15 feet or less. The water clarity on these sand pit lakes are very clear.

April 26

I took my son Jeremy, his friend, and my brother Tim fishing at Red Willow Reservoir in the afternoon. We are still catching wipers, white bass, northern pike, largemouth bass, and a walleye on jerkbaits, crankbaits, and RealBait Flasher Jigs with Berkley Gulp! minnows around main lake points, edges of flats next to the creek channels or deep drop off, and back in coves. The surface water temperature dropped to the lower 50 from the cold front that came through the day before, and the water clarity on the main lake is very clear.

April 25

My older son Jeremy, younger brother Tim and I went fishing at four different private sand pit lakes. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 10 and 19,50 inches, including 21- and 20.50-inch Master Angler bass that I caught on two different sand pit lakes. We caught these fish on rubber skirted jigs with plastic trailers around flats next to deep water, drop offs next to points, and underwater brush piles in depths of 20 feet or less.

April 24

I took my older brother, Rod, fishing at Red Willow Reservoir. We caught good numbers of wipers up to 22 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, a few northern pike and largemouth bass, and a 24-inch walleye. These fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits, and Lytle's Secret tailspinners around main lake points, flats next to the creek channel and next to deep water.

April 23

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir. My clients and I caught good numbers of wipers up to 22 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, a Master Angler largemouth bass at 20.50 inches, plus smaller largemouth bass, and a few northern pike up to 30 inches. We caught these fish on suspending jerkbaits around points, edges of flats near the creek channels and deep water, and back in coves. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s, and the water clarity is very clear.

April 21

I went fishing with my two friends from Colorado in the mid-afternoon at Red Willow Reservoir. We caught wipers up to 20 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, a few largemouth bass up to 19 inches, a 30-inch northern pike, and an 18-inch walleye. We caught these fish on suspending jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits around the edges of flats next to deep water, and in a cove. The surface water temperature is averaging in the lower 50s.

April 20

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir. We caught a Master Angler wiper at 24.50 inches, plus good numbers of smaller wipers between 17 and 22 inches, northern pike up to 32 inches, and two walleyes at 21 and 19 inches. We caught the wipers and walleyes around the edges of flats near the creek channels, and the northern pike back in coves. The surface water temperature is in the lower 50s.

April 18

My younger brother Tim and I fished at Red Willow Reservoir in the afternoon. We caught wipers between 16 and 20 inches, northern pike up to 34 inches, and a 14-inch white bass around the edges of flats next to creek channels in depths of 15 feet or less. We caught these fish on suspending jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits. The surface water temperature is around 50 degrees, and the water clarity is very clear.

April 14, 15

I fished at two different private sand pit lakes for a few hours in the mid-afternoon. I caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 10 and 17 inches on a Texas-rigged Strike King Rage Tail Craw around points, and the edges of the flats next to the deep drop off in depth of 15 feet or less.

April 11

My older son Jeremy, younger brother Tim and I went fishing at a private sand pit in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass up to 16 inches, crappies up to 14 inches, and bluegills up to 8 inches. We caught these fish around the drop off next to points, and underwater brush piles in depths of 24 feet or less on skirted double-tail grubs, 4-inch tube baits, Texas-rigged Yum crawdads and spinnerbaits. The crappies and bluegills were taken on a small jig head with Berkley Gulp! baits.

April 10

My older brother Rod and I fished at two different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 12 and 18 inches on skirted double-tail grubs, 4-inch plastic tube baits, Rapala Deep 10 X-Rap slash baits, and a few on a flutter spoons. They were caught next to the drop off near points and underwater brush piles in depths of 20 feet or less.

April 8

I fished at a private sand pit lake in the afternoon for a few hours and caught six largemouth bass between 16 and 18.50 inches, and a 14-inch crappie. Three of the largemouth bass came on a 1/2-ounce football jig head with a Chompers skirted double tail grub, and the other three bass and the crappie was caught on a suspended Rapala Deep 10 X-Rap slashbait. They were caught around the drop off next to points along the windy shoreline in depths of 20 feet or less.

April 3

My two brothers and I fished below Medicine Creek Reservoir in the creek. We caught largemouth bass up to 17 inches, white bass up to 10 inches, and a few channel catfish up to two pounds around the deeper holes in the creek. We caught these fish on a Berkley Gulp! Minnow, tubebaits, and flutter spoons.

April 1, 2

I fished at two different private sandpit lakes in the late afternoon for a few hours. I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 20.50 inches, plus smaller largemouth bass along the drop off next to deep water on a Strike King Rage Space Monkey rigged Texas Rig, and a flutter spoon in depths of 18 feet or less.
