SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2008

October 20, 27-28, and 30-31

I fished at two different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon and caught a Master Angler crappie at 16 inches, plus good numbers of smaller crappies between 8 and 13 inches. I also caught largemouth bass between 10 and 18 inches, a few yellow perch up to 10 inches, and bluegills up to 9 inches. These fish were caught on a rubber skirted jig with plastic trailers, Lake Fork Flutter Spoon, and a jig head with Berkley Powerbait Realistix Minnow, and a tube bait around the drop off next to points, edges of deep weed beds, and underwater brush piles in depths of 25 feet or less.

October 18

I fished at Red Willow Reservoir in the afternoon and caught good numbers of white bass up to 14 inches, wipers up to 20 inches, and a 28-inch northern pike. I caught these fish around main lake points, underwater islands, and edges of a creek channel in depths of 18 feet or less using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinners crankbait, Lake Fork Flutter Spoon, and a Reelbait Flasher Jig with a 4-inch Lake Fork Trophy Bait and Tackle Live Magic Shad Swimbait. The surface water temperature is averaging around 60 degrees.

October 15-17

I fished at my chiropractor's private sand pit lake in the afternoon on all three days, and my chiropractor fished with me on October 17. We caught largemouth bass between 10 and 18 inches plus an 18-inch walleye. These fish were caught on a rubber skirted jig with plastic trailers and crankbaits fished around the drop off next to points, edges of deep weed beds, and underwater brush piles in depths of 25 feet or less.

October 11

I guided clients on Red Willow Reservoir and we caught two Master Angler wipers at 28.50 and 25 inches. We also caught smaller wipers between 18 and 22 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, two walleyes at 24.75- and 24.50-inches, a 22-inch flathead catfish, and a 11-inch yellow perch. These fish were caught around the drop off next to main lakes points, underwater islands, and near the dam areas in depths of 20 feet or less. We were using a Carolina rig with gizzard shad, Lytle's Secret Tail Spinners, and a Lake Fork Flutter Spoons.

October 10

I guided a client on Medicine Creek Reservoir. We caught white bass up to 14 inches, and a nice wiper on deep diving crankbaits next to the dam areas in depths of 15 feet or less.

October 7-9

I fished at two different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon on all three days. I caught largemouth bass up to 18.50 inches, and a nice 12-inch yellow perch. I caught these fish on a 5/8-ounce football jig with a Strike King Rage Tail Craw, Lake Fork Flutter Spoon, deep diving crankbait, and a 4-inch swimbait. They were caught next to the drop off next to points, underwater brush piles, and edges of deep weed beds in depths of 25 feet or less.

October 5

My brother Tim, and I fished at two different private sand pit lakes. We caught around 20 or more largemouth bass between 10 and 19.50 inches, a Master Angler crappie at 15.50 inches, and a 24-inch walleye. I caught my fish on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinners, Lake Fork Flutter Spoons, a deep diving crankbait, and my brother caught his fish on a jig and plastic trailers, and a jig head with a Berkley Gulp! Minnow Grub. These fish were caught around the drop off next to points, underwater brush piles, and edges of deep weed beds in depths of 25 feet or less.

October 2-4

I took my friends fishing in the afternoon on October 2 and 3, and I guided clients on October 4, all at Red Willow Reservoir. We caught good numbers of wipers between 15 and 23.75 inches, a three walleye between 12 and 20 inches, three crappies between 11 and 13 inches, and a Master Angler channel catfish at 30.50 inches. We caught these fish around main lake points, underwater humps, road beds, and edges of creek channels in depths of 25 feet or less using a Carolina rig with gizzard shad, Lytle's Secret Tail Spinners, Lake Fork 4- and 5-inch Flutter Spoons, 1-oz. jigging spoons, and a 4.50-inch Lake Fork Trophy Bait &Tackle Live Magic Shad swimbait.

September 29-October 1

I fished at two different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon. I'm still catching good numbers of largemouth bass between 12 and 19 inches, and a few nice yellow perch at 13 and 11 inches. I caught these fish on a Lake Fork Flutter Spoons, deep diving crankbait, and a 4.50-inch Lake Fork Trophy Bait & Tackle Live Magic Shad swimbait in depths of 25 feet or less around the drop off next to points, edges of deep weed beds, and underwater brush piles.

September 28

I went fishing at Red Willow Reservoir in the the afternoon and caught good numbers of wipers between 15 and 23.50 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, and a 26-inch channel catfish. I caught these fish on a 4- and 5-inch Talon Series Big Dandy Lake Fork Flutter Spoons, Lytle's Secret Tail Spinners, and a Reelbait Flasher Jig with a Lake Fork Trophy Bait & Tackle 4.5-inch Live Magic Shad around underwater humps, main lake points, edges of creek channels, and underwater road beds in depth of 25 feet or less.

September 27

My brother Tim, and I fished at two different private sand pit lakes. Tim caught a nice Master Angler largemouth bass at 21.50 inches, plus we also caught good numbers of smaller largemouth bass between 12 and 19 inches, crappies up to 14 inches, and a two channel catfish at 25 and 22 inches. My brother caught his fish on a jig and plastic craw trailer, and a jig head with a Berkley Gulp! minnow grub, and I caught most of my fish on a 4- and 5-inch Lake Fork Flutter Spoons, and a few on the Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner. We caught these fish around the drop off next to points, edges of flats next to deep water, and underwater brush piles in depths of 25 feet or less.

September 25-26

I guided on September 25 and fished alone on September 26 at Red Willow Reservior. My clients and I caught good numbers of wipers between 15 and 23.50 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, and a channel catfish around 24 inches. We caught these fish on a Carolina rig using shad, Lytle's Secret Tail Spinners, Reelbait Flasher jigs with a 4-inch swimbait, and a 4-and 5-inch Lake Fork Flutter Spoons around main lake points, underwater humps, edges of creek channels, and underwater road beds. The surface water temperature is averaging around 70 degrees.

September 22-24

I fished at two different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon. I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 22 inches on a 5-inch Lake Fork Flutter Spoon. I also caught good numbers of smaller bass between 11 and 19 inches. These fish were caught around the drop off next to points, edges of deep weed beds, and underwater brush piles in depths of 30 feet or less using a 4- and 5-inch Lake Fork Flutter Spoons, deep diving crankbaits, Strike King Zulu ZTOO Soft Jerkbait, and 5/8-oz. football jigs with plastic trailer craw.

September 18-20

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir all three days and we caught two Master Angler wipers. My clients and I also caught good numbers of smaller wipers between 12 and 23 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, a 28-inch northern pike, and a 12-inch crappie. We caught these fish on a Carolina Rigs using gizzard shad, 1-ounce Lytle's Secret Tail Spinners. and 4- and 5-inch Talon Series Big Dandy Custom Lake Fork Flutter Spoons around underwater humps, road beds, main lake points, and edges of creek channels in depths of 25 feet or less. The surface water temperature is averaging around 70 degrees.

September 16-17

I fished at two different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon, and I'm still catching good numbers of nice largemouth bass up to 19 inches. I'm using a 5-inch Talon Series Big Dandy Custom Lake Fork Flutter Spoon and a 5/8-ounce football jig with a Strike King Rage Tail Craw around the drop off next to points, edges of deep weed beds, and underwater brush piles in depths of 25 feet or less.

September 12-14

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir all three days. I caught a Master Angler 38-inch flathead catfish that weighted a little over 20 pounds on a Talon Series Big Dandy Custom Lake Fork Flutter Spoon. My clients and I also caught good numbers of wipers, white bass, and a channel catfish around main lake points, underwater humps, road beds, and edges of creek channel bends in depths of 20 feet or less. We caught these fish on a Carolina rig using gizzard shad, 3/4- and 1-ounce Lytle's Secret Tail Spinners, and 4- and 5-inch Talon Series Big Dandy Custom Lake Fork Flutter Spoons. The surface water temperature is in the upper 60s.

September 9-11

I fished at three different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon. I'm still catching good numbers of largemouth bass up to 19.75 inches using the 4- and 5-inch Talon Series Big Dandy Custom Lake Fork Flutter Spoons and a 5/8-ounce football jig with Strike King Rage Tail Craw. These bass were caught around the drop off next to points, underwater brush piles, and edges of deep weed beds in depths of 30 feet or less.

September 6-7

I guided the same clients on both days at Red Willow Reservoir. We caught two Master Angler fish including an 11-pound northern pike and a 24-inch wiper. My clients and I also caught good numbers of smaller wipers up to 23.25 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, a few small walleyes, and a 4-pound channel catfish. These fish were caught on a Carolina Rig with gizzard shad, a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a jigging spoon, and a 4- and 5-inch Talon Series Big Dandy Custom Lake Fork Flutter Spoons around main lake points, underwater humps, road beds, and edges of creek channel bends in depths of 30 feet or less. The surface water temperature is in the lower 70s.

September 1-5

I fished at two different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon on all five days. I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 23 inches, and a nice 27-inch walleye. I also caught good numbers of smaller bass between 11 and 19.50 inches. Most of these fish were caught on 4- and 5-inch Talon Series Big Dandy Custom Lake Fork Flutter Spoons around the drop off next to points, edges of deep weed beds, and underwater brush piles in depths of 30 feet or less. I also caught a few on a 5/8-ounce football jig with Strike King Rage Tail Craw.
