May 7-9
I guided on Red Willow Reservoir all three days. My clients and I
caught good numbers of wipers between 13 and 23 inches, white bass
up to 14 inches, walleyes between 14.75 and 24 inches, northern pike
between 20 and 32 inches, largemouth bass up to 16 inches, a few
smallmouth bass up to 14 inches and a channel catfish that was about
20 inches long. We caught these fish on Lytle's Secret Tail
Spinners, suspending jerkbaits, and shallow running crankbaits
around main lake points, flats next to deep water, underwater humps,
edges of creek channels, back in coves and along the dam areas. The
surface water temperature is in the upper 50s, and the water clarity
on the main lake is very clear.

deep water. The water temperature is averaging in the mid to upper
50s on the main lake.

My brother Tim, and I fished at two different private sand pit lakes
in the afternoon. We caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 21
inches plus good numbers of smaller bass between 10 and 19.75
inches. We caught these fish on a 1/2- and 3/4-oz. football jig with
a Chompers twin tail plastic trailer. My brother used a Strike King
Bitsy Bug jig with plastic trailers, and I also caught a few on a
chatterbait. The fish were caught around points, edges of deep
flats, weed beds and underwater brush piles in depths of 20 feet or
less.
