NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2007

December 28 and 29

My friends and I went ice fishing at Swanson Reservoir in the afternoon. We caught walleyes between 15 and 19.50 inches, wipers between 18 and 22 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, channel catfish up to 26 inches, and two crappies at 14.25 and 13 inches. We caught these fish in depths of 24 to 30 feet over a dike next to the river channel near the dam using a Lytle's Secret, jigging spoon, and a jig head with a Berkley Power Bait Realstix minnow. The ice thickness is between 5 and 6 inches on the main lake.

November 25, 27 and 29

I fished at a private sand pit lake in the afternoon. I caught good numbers of crappies between 8 and 14 inches plus a Master Angler crappie at 16.50 inches. I also caught a few largemouth bass between 12 and 16 inches. I was using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a drop shot rig with a Berkley Power Bait Realistix Minnow, and a 1/16-oz. jig head with a Berkley Power Bait Realistix minnow around deep points, edges of deep weed beds, and around underwater brush piles in depths of 28 feet or less. The surface water temperature is averaging around 40 degrees.

Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, and a drop shot rig with a 4-inch Chompers Drop Shot Worm, and a Berkley Power Bait Realistix Minnow around edges of deep weed beds, underwater brush piles, and points in depths of 30 feet or less. The surface water temperature is in the mid 40s. The water clarity on these sand pit lakes is very clear.
