MARCH 2007

March 31-April 1

My brother Tim and I went fishing at three different private sandpit lakes in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 11 and 18.50 inches, and a 13-inch crappie, around drop-offs next to flats and points in depths of 20 feet or less. We caught them on a 3/4-ounce Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, ReelBait Flasher Jig with Berkley Gulp! 3-inch Minnow Grub, and a few on a suspending jerkbait.

March 25

My brother Tim and I went fishing at two different private sand pit lakes. We caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 21.50 inches, plus good numbers of smaller largemouth bass between 13 and 19.75 inches, and a 15-inch white bass. We caught these bass around drop-offs next to flats and points in depths of 20 feet or less by slow rolling a 3/4-ounce Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner along the bottom. We also caught them by reeling the Lytle's Secret slowly reeling a few feet or more, and then letting it flutter back to the bottom.

March 18

My brother Tim and I went fishing in the afternoon at three different private sandpit lakes. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass and a nice yellow perch around deep points and a drop-off next to flats using the Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner and a Strike King Bitsy Bug Jig with a Strike King 3X Denny Brauer Bitsy Chunk. We caught most of these fish by reeling the Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner and the jig and chunk combo slowly a few feet or less near the bottom and then let it flutter back to the bottom.

March 12-13

I went fishing at a private sandpit lake for a few hours in the late afternoon. I caught largemouth bass between 13 and 19 inches, and a 13-inch crappie on a 3/4-ounce Lytle Secret Tail Spinner around points and deep drop-offs in depths of 15 to 35 feet of water. The secret to catching these fish in this cold water period is slowly reeling the Lytle's Secret a few feet or more, then let it flutter back down to the bottom on a semi-tight line. Repeat the process and do this all the way back to the boat. I also caught a few fish slow rolling the Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner along the bottom by reeling at the slowest speed possible - the slower the better.
