May 31

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and we caught a mixed bags of walleyes, white bass, small wipers, crappies, northern pikes, and a 26-inch channel catfish. We caught these fish on the Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, and a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with Berkley Gulp! minnow Grub and a 4-inch paddle tail around humps, main lake points, edges of creek channel, flats next to deep water, and in a cove. The surface water temperature is averaging around 70 degrees.

May 29

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and we caught good numbers of walleyes up to 18 inches, white bass up to 12 inches, small wipers, northern pike, and a 17-inch largemouth bass. We caught these fish around main lake points, humps, flats, edges of creek channels, and back in a cove. These fish were caught on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, and a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch Minnow Grub and a 4-inch paddletail. The surface water temperature is averaging around 70 degrees.

May 27

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and we caught good numbers of walleye up to 20 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, wipers up to 20 inches, small northern pike, a few largemouth bass, crappie, a 26-inch channel catfish, and freshwater drum. We caught these fish on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Minnow Grub and a 4-inch paddletail, and a jerkbait (Rapala X-Rap). They were caught around main lake points, humps, edges of creek channels, flats, and back in coves. The surface water temperature is in the 70s.

May 26

I took a client fishing at Red Willow Reservoir and we caught two Master Angler fish, including a 28.50-inch walleye and a 20-inch largemouth bass. We also caught a mixed bag of smaller walleyes, largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, wipers, northern pike, and a flathead catfish. We caught these fish on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a 4-inch paddletail, a jerkbait( Rapala X-Rap), and a soft jerkbait (Strike King 3X Zulu). They were caught around main lake points, humps, flats, creek channel edges, back in coves, and along the dam area.

May 25

I took my brother Rod fishing at Red Willow Reservoir in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of walleyes, white bass, wipers, northern pike, and largemouth bass. We caught these fish on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner and a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Minnow Grub and a 4-inch paddletail. They were caught around creek channel edges, flats, main lake points, and underwater humps. The surface water temperature is in the 70s.

May 23

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and we caught a mixed bag of walleyes, wipers, white bass, largemouth bass, northern pike, channel catfish, and drum. They were caught around main lake points, humps, creek channel edges, and flats near deep water. These fish were caught on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Minnow Grub, and a 4-inch paddletail. The surface water temperature was in the upper 60s in the morning and low 70s by late afternoon.

May 22

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir in the morning and at Swanson in the afternoon. We caught walleyes, white bass, wipers, and  channel catfish. We caught these fish using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Minnow Grub and Crawler, and live shiners. The fish were caught around main lake points, humps, flats next to deep water, and along the creek channel edges. The surface water temperature is in the upper 60s.

May 21

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and my clients and I caught good numbers of walleyes, including a Master Angler at 30 inches. We also caught wipers, white bass, largemouth bass, northern pike, and channel catfish. The fish were caught on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Minnow Grub and a 4-inch paddletail, and a topwater plug. These fish were caught around humps, main lake points, flats next to deep water, edges of creek channels, and along the dam area. The surface water temperature is in the upper 60s.

May 20

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and we caught good numbers of walleyes up to 25 inches, wipers up to 18 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, largemouth bass between 12 and 18 inches, small northern pike, and a few channel catfish up to 5 pounds. They were caught on the Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, and a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Minnow Grub, and a 4-inch Paddletail. These fish were caught around main lake points, underwater humps, edges of creek channels, and flats near deep water. The surface water temperature is in the mid to upper 60s.

May 19

My clients and I fished at Swanson Reservoir in the morning and Red Willow in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of walleyes between 12 and 20 inches, wipers up to 21 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, small northern pikes, and a few channel catfish. We caught these fish around main lake points, edges of creek channels, flats next to deep water, humps, and along the dam area. We caught them on the a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, and a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! crawler and minnow grub.

May 17

I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and we caught a mixed bag of walleyes, wipers, white bass, small northern pike, and a channel catfish. We caught them on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Crawler and Minnow Grub, a crankbait, and a Carolina rig using a live shiner. The fish were caught around main lake points, flats next to deep water, creek channel edges, underwater humps, and along the dam area. The surface water temperature is in the 60s.

May 16

I guided at Red Willow Reservoir and caught a Master Angler flathead catfish at 43 inches using a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley 4-inch Minnow Grub. My clients and I caught good numbers of wipers between 12 and 18 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, walleyes between 11 and 20 inches, and a few small northern pike. We caught these fish on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Crawler and Minnow Grub, a suspending jerkbait, and a topwater plug. My clients also caught wipers, white bass, and a small channel catfish using a fly rod casting flies. We caught these fish around main lake points, humps, edges of creek channels, flats next to deep water, and along the dam areas. The surface water temperature is in the lower 60s.

May 15

I guided on Swanson Reservoir in the morning and Red Willow in the afternoon. We caught a Master Angler wiper at 27 inches, plus smaller wipers between 13 and 20 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, walleyes between 13 and 17 inches, a few small northern pike, smallmouth bass, and a flathead catfish. We caught these fish on a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Crawler and Minnow Grub, a suspending jerkbait, and a topwater plug. The fish were caught around main lake points, flats next to deep water, edges of creek channels, underwater humps, and along the dam area.

May 12-14

I guided on Red Willow lake and we caught good numbers of walleyes between 13 and 26 inches, wipers between 13 and 24.50 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, 11 small northern pike, 3 channel catfish between 4 and 6 pounds, and a few smallmouth bass. We caught these fish around main lake points, flats next to deep water, creek channel edges, underwater humps, edges of weed beds next to the drop off, mouths of coves, and along the dam area. We were using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBaitBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Crawler and Minnow Grub, a suspending jerkbait, and a crankbait. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

May 11

I fished at a private sand pit lake for a few hours in the late afternoon. I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 20.25 inches, plus smaller bass between 11 and 18 inches. I caught them on a jig and plastic craw combo, and a chatterbait jig around points, edges of weed beds, and along the first drop off next to flats.

May 10

My brother Rod and I went fishing at Red Willow Reservoir in the late morning, and we caught good numbers of wipers up to 19 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, walleyes up to 16 inches, two channel catfish around 5 pounds, a small northern pike, and a smallmouth bass. We caught these fish using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Minnow Grub, and a suspending Jerkbait (Rapala X-Rap) around main lake points and along the dam. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s.

May 9

My brother Rod and I took Al Patterson (President of ReelBait Tackle), Larry Porter (Omaha World-Herald Outdoor Writer), and Bob Luft (ReelBait Pro Staff) fishing at Medicine Creek Reservoir in the afternoon. We caught wipers up to 20 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, and walleyes between 14 and 16 inches using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! Minnow Grub, and a suspending jerkbait. We caught these fish around main lake points and along the dam.

May 8

I guided on Red Willow and we caught good numbers of wipers between 14 and 20 inches, walleyes up to 17 inches, white bass between 9 and 13 inches, largemouth and smallmouth bass up to 16 inches, and few small northern pike. We caught these fish using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a suspending jerkbait, a medium diving crankbait, and a lipless crankbait. We caught these fish around main lake points, flats next to deep water, edges of the creek channel, underwater humps, and back in coves. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s on the main lake and lower 60s back in coves.

May 7

I took my chiropractor and his son-in-law fishing at Red Willow Reservoir in the afternoon. We caught a mixed bag of wipers up to 19 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, small walleyes and northern pikes, plus a few largemouth bass up to 15 inches. We caught these fish using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a ReelBait Bait Walleye Flasher Jig with  Berkley Gulp!, and a suspending jerkbait around main lake points, flats next to deep water, edges of a creek channel, and back in a large cove. The surface water temperature on the main lake is in the upper 50s and lower 60s back in a cove. The water clarity is averaging around 15 inches.

May 6

I went fishing with my chiropractor at his private sandpit lake for a few hour in the afternoon. We caught largemouth bass between 10 and 17 inches around the drop off next to points, and edges of weed beds. We caught them on jig and plastic combo, and a Texas rigged plastic lizard.

May 5

My brother Rod and I went to fished at Red Willow Reservoir in the mid afternoon for a few hours. We caught wipers, white bass, and walleyes using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, and a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch Minnow Grub. These fish were caught around main lake points, edges of a creek channel, flats next to deep water, and underwater humps. The water temperature is averaging around 56 degrees on the main lake.

May 4

I took my brother Rod, Al Patterson (President of ReelBait Tackle Company), and Joe Duggan (Lincoln Journal Star Outdoor Writer) fishing at Swanson and Red Willow reservoirs in the late afternoon until sundown. We caught one Master Angler wiper at 27 inches, plus smaller wipers between 15 and 19 inches, white bass up to 1.50 pounds, and walleyes up to 17 inches. We caught these fish using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, and a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch Minnow Grub around main lake points, edges or creek channel, flats next to deep water, an underwater hump, and along the face of the dam. The surface water temperature dropped to 57 degrees from the cold fronts we had the last few days.

May 3

I fished at a private sand pit lake for a few hours in the mid afternoon. I caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 12 and 18 inches using a jig and plastic craw combo. They were caught around the first drop off next to points and flat, next to cattails, and underwater brush piles.

May 2

I guided on Swanson Reservoir in the morning and at Red Willow in the afternoon. We caught three Master Anglers fish including two wipers at 25.50 and 24.25 inches, and a 22-inch largemouth bass. We also caught smaller wipers between 13 and 20 inches, two largemouth bass (16 and 15 inches), two walleye around 15 inches, and a small white bass. We caught these fish using a suspending jerkbait, a 6-inch swim bait, a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with Berkley Gulp! 3-inch Minnow Grub, and a jig and plastic craw combo around main lake points, islands, flats next to deep water, and back in coves. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s on the main lake and in the 60s back in coves.

May 1

I took my brother Rod fishing, along with a former Nebraska Game and Parks Commission biologist, at Swanson Reservoir in the afternoon. We caught five Master Angler wipers (29.50", three at 28", and one at 27"), plus good numbers of smaller wipers between 15 and 22 inches, and a few white bass. We caught these fish using a suspending jerkbait, and a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner around an island, points, and along the dam areas. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s to low 60s.
