MARCH 2006

March 26-30

I went to fish at a couple different private sandpits in the afternoon and caught good numbers of crappies up to 14 inches, plus bluegill up to 10 inches. These fish were caught on a Float ’N’ Fly (a small 1/16 oz. jig below a bobber), a drop shot rig using a Berkley Power Bait 3-inch Drop Shot Minnow, ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley 2-inch Minnow Grub, and a few nice crappies on the new smaller Rapala X-Rap jerkbait. The fish were caught around the drop-off next to points, and underwater brush piles near deep water.

I went fishing at a private sand pit lake in the late afternoon. I caught two Master Angler fish, including a 23-inch largemouth bass and a 16-inch crappie. Both of these fish were caught on a 3/4-ounce Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, in a natural shad color pattern, along a drop off next to a long underwater point.

March 12

I went largemouth bass fishing in the afternoon at a private sandpit lake. I caught two largemouth bass around a long point that has some weed beds with a drop off next to deep water on the end. One of the bass (16 inches) was caught on a drop shot rig using a Berkley 3-inch Drop Shot Minnow next to the drop off, and the other bass (14 inches) was caught on a Rapala X-Rap suspended over the tip of the point.
