I fished at a private sand pit lake in
the late afternoon. I'm still catching largemouth bass on a Lytle's
Secret Tail Spinner around edges of deep weed beds, drop-offs next
to points, and around underwater brush piles in deep water. I also
caught 9 crappies between 11 and 14 inches on a smaller 3/8-ounce
Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner next to an underwater brush piles on a
point.
October 29
I went fishing with a friend on his private sand pit lake for a few
hours in the late afternoon. We caught largemouth bass between 11
and 17 inches using a Chompers Stand Up jig head with a Twin Tail
Grub. We caught them around drop-offs next to points, and edges of
deep weed beds.
October 28
I fished at Red Willow Reservoir in the mid afternoon for a few
hours. I caught white bass up to 13 inches around an underwater hump
next to a creek channel, and on main lake points in depths of 15
feet or less using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner. I also caught a
14-inch largemouth bass along the dam using a spinnerbait. The
surface water temperature is in the mid 50s and the water visibility
is around 8 inches or less.
October 25-27
I fished at three different private sand pit lakes in the late
afternoon for a few hours. I'm still catching largemouth bass up to
18 inches, and a few nice crappies using a Lytle's Secret Tail
Spinner. I also caught a few nice bass on a jig and plastic trailer
combo. They were caught around drop-offs next to points, edges of
weed beds, and around underwater brush piles.
October 20, 23, 24
I took some friends fishing at a private sand pit lake. We caught
largemouth bass up to 18 inches, and a few nice crappies and
bluegill. We caught most of these fish using a Lytle's Secret Tail
Spinner, and a few of the largemouth bass were caught on a 4-inch
tube bait, and a suspending jerkbait. They were caught around drop
offs next to points, edges of deep weed beds, and near underwater
brush piles.
October 19
I guided on Red Willow Reservoir and my clients and I caught around
20 wipers up to 18 inches, and white bass up to 13 inches. We caught
these fish around underwater humps, road beds, and main lake points
in depths of 15 feet or less using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, a
medium diving crankbait, and a few of these fish was caught on a
Carolina rig with gizzard shad. The surface water temperature is in
the upper 50s with visibility of eight inches or less.
October 18
I took a friend largemouth bass fishing at Red Willow Reservoir in
the afternoon. I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 20.50
inches, plus two other largemouth bass at 17 and 15 inches. These
bass were caught on a spinnerbait in the back of a cove around
beaver hut, around a rocky point, and next to a shallow weed bed. My
friend and I saw surface activity on a main lake point and caught
good numbers of white bass up to 12 inches and wipers between 15 and
20 inches in depths of 10 feet or less using a 3/4- and 1-ounce
Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, and my friend caught a few on a
3/4-ounce lipless crankbait. The surface water temperature is in the
low 60s with visibility of 6 inches or less.
October 17
My brother Rod and I fished at four different private sandpit lakes
in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass, a few
nice bluegills up to 10 inches, and a white bass around 16 inches.
We caught those fish using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner. My brother
caught a few on a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp!
Crawler. They were caught around drop offs next to points, and along
the edges of weed beds.
October 15, 16
I fished at Red Willow Reservoir and caught good numbers of white
bass, plus a few wipers up to 18 inches. They were caught around
underwater humps, edges of the creek channel, main lake points, and
flats next to deep water using a 3/4- and 1-ounce Lytle's Secret
Tail Spinner, and a medium diving crankbait, in depths of 12 feet or
less. I also caught wipers and white bass back in coves using a
spinnerbait and a crankbait. The water visibility is around five
inches or less, with the surface water temperature averaging around
60 degrees.
October 14
I guided on Swanson Reservoir and we caught around 20 wipers between
16 and 21 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, and a channel catfish
around five pounds. My clients and I caught these fish using a
Carolina Rig with gizzard shad, and a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner.
They were caught along an underwater railroad bed in depths of 12 to
17 feet. The surface water temperature was in the upper 50s in the
morning and the low 60s in the afternoon. The water visibility is
around six inches.
October 13
I fished at Red Willow Reservoir in the afternoon and caught good
numbers of white bass. They were caught around main lake points,
underwater humps, edges of the creek channel, and main lake flats
using a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner and a medium diving crankbait.
These fish were caught in depths of 10 feet or less. The surface
water temperature is averaging around 60 degrees with visibility of
five inches or less.
October 11, 12
I fished at three different private sand pit lakes in the afternoon.
I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 21.50-inches, plus good
numbers of smaller largemouth bass up to 18 inches, and a few
crappies up to 13 inches. I caught them using a 3/4-ounce Lytle's
Secret Tail Spinner around drop offs next to points, and along the
edges of weed beds.
October 9
I guided on Red Willow and the lake is turning over with a severe
green algae bloom creating visibility of about three inches or less.
The water temperature has dropped into the upper 50s due to the
cooler weather. Most of the fish were suspending in all depths and
are scattered throughout the lake. My client and I did manage to
catch white bass up to 12 inches, small wipers up to 18 inches, and
one small northern pike. These fish were caught a Lytle's Secret
Tail Spinner and a medium diving crankbait around main lake points,
humps, and flats next to deep water in depths of 10 feet or less.
In the late afternoon and early evening hours, I fished at a private
sand pit lake and caught a Master Angler wiper at 27 inches, plus
largemouth bass up to 17 inches. I was using a 3/4-ounce Lytle's
Secret Tail Spinner around edges of weed beds, drop off next to
points, and a shallow hump in the middle of the pit.
October 8
I fished at a private sandpit lake in the late morning for a few
hours. I caught largemouth bass up to 18 inches, and a nice
10.50-inch bluegill. I caught them using the 3/4-ounce Lytle's
Secret Tail Spinner around edges of deep weed beds and drop off next
to points.
October 7
I fished at Red Willow in the afternoon. I caught white bass, and
small wipers using the Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner and a medium
diving crankbait. The fish were caught around main lake points,
underwater humps, and flats next to deep water. Most of these fish
were caught in 12 feet or less of water. The surface water
temperature is in the low 60s and the lake look like it is starting
to turn over with green algae bloom. The water visibility is around
six inches or less.
October 3-6
I fished at four different private sandpit lakes in the late
afternoon for a few hours. I caught good numbers of largemouth bass
up to 19 inches, and a few nice bluegill between nine and 10 inches.
I caught these fish around the edges of weed beds, deep drop off
next to points, and a shallow water hump in the middle of the lake
using the 3/4-ounce Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner.
October 2
My brother Tim, and I fished at three different private sand pit
lakes. We caught four Master Angler fish including three largemouth
bass at 21, 20.50, and 20 inches, and a 29-inch walleye. My brother
caught the 21-inch bass and 29-inch walleye using a 1/8 oz. jig head
and Berkley Gulp! Nightcrawler. I caught the 20.50- and 20-inch bass
using a 3/4-ounce. Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner. We also caught good
numbers of smaller largemouth between 11 and 19.50 inches, a few
bluegill up to nine inches, and a channel catfish around six pounds.
I caught all my fish on the Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner, while my
brother caught most of his fish using the jig head and Gulp! combo.
He caught a few fish on a small spinnerbait. We caught these fish
along the edges of deep weed beds, drop off next to points, and
flats next to deep water.
October 1
I guided on Swanson Reservoir today. My clients and I caught good
numbers of wipers up to 22 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, and a
few small channel catfish. We caught these fish using a Carolina rig
with gizzard shad, and a Lytle's Secret Tail Spinner around an
underwater hump and a road bed near the dam areas. Most of these
fish were caught in depths of 13 to 22 feet of water. The surface
water temperature is in the mid 60s.
