NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2005

December 19, 20

A friend and I went ice fishing both days at Swanson Reservoir in the afternoon. We caught around 30 or more wipers between 17 and 22 inches, over 60 white bass between .50 to 1.75 pounds, 16 channel catfish between 14 and 26 inches, two walleye at 23 and 14.50 inches, a 13-inch crappie, and a small perch. We released most of these fish except my friend kept the 23-inch walleye, the crappie, and a few medium size catfish to eat. They were caught on a homemade jigging spoon tipped with waxworm in depths of 20 to 26 feet around an underwater dike next to the river channel near the dam area. The ice thickness is averaging around 5 inches.
