NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2005
December 19, 20
A friend and I went ice fishing both
days at Swanson Reservoir in the afternoon. We caught around 30 or
more wipers between 17 and 22 inches, over 60 white bass between
.50 to 1.75 pounds, 16 channel catfish
between 14 and 26 inches, two walleye at 23 and 14.50 inches, a
13-inch crappie, and a small perch. We released most of these fish
except my friend kept the 23-inch walleye, the crappie, and a few
medium size catfish to eat. They were caught on a homemade jigging
spoon tipped with waxworm in depths of 20 to 26 feet around an
underwater dike next to the river channel near the dam area. The ice
thickness is averaging around 5 inches.
December 18
I went ice fishing for a few hours in
the late afternoon at a private sandpit lake. I caught good numbers
of crappies between nine and 13.50 inches on a homemade jigging
spoon. I caught all of these crappies suspended in depths of 14 to
22 feet along the drop-off between 30 and 40 feet of water in the
middle of the lake. The ice thickness is averaging around six inches
on this sandpit lake.

largemouth bass. We caught most these fish suspended in depths of 15
to 20 feet along the dropoff between 30 and 40 feet of water in the
middle of the sandpit. We caught them using a small homemade jigging
spoon tipped with waxworm. The ice thickness on this lake was around
five inches.
December 12
My brother Tim and I went ice fishing at
Red Willow Reservoir in the late afternoon. We caught good numbers
of crappies up to 1.50 pounds, and a few bluegills up to nine inches

creek channel that swings next to the main lake points in depth of
16 to 24 feet. The ice is averaging around five inches thick.

Red Willow Reservoir in the morning. We fished brush piles halfway
back in the south boat cove in depths of 15 to 24 feet. We caught
crappies up to 13 inches and bluegills up to 9 inches using a small
jigging spoon. In the mid afternoon, we fished at Swanson Reservoir
and caught white bass between .75 and 1.50 pounds, a 5-pound channel
catfish, and a small perch using a small homemade jigging spoon.
These fish were caught along an underwater dike next to the dam area
in depths of 20 to 24 feet. The ice is averaging around five inches
on both lakes.

pit lakes in the late afternoon. I'm catching good numbers of nice
crappies between 10 and 14.50 inches, and largemouth bass up to 15

feet or less. The surface water temperature is averaging around 54
degrees and the water visibility is around 15 inches or less.
November 1
I went back to the same private sand pit
lake I fished yesterday in the late afternoon. I caught nice
crappies and largemouth bass on the same underwater brush piles, and
the edges of deep weed beds next to points on a Lytle's Secret Tail
Spinner. The secret on catching these fish both days was slow
rolling the Tail Spinner slowly along the bottom or near structure.
