May 31

I guided on Red Willow and we caught one Master Angler wiper at 26 inches, plus smaller wipers up to 20.50 inches, walleyes up to 21 inches, and white bass up 12 inches. We caught these fish on ReelBait Walleye Jigs using Berkley Gulps! (3-inch grub minnows, and nightcrawlers), and few came on a Carolina Rigs using livebait. May 30

My two brothers (Rod and Tim) and I went to fished at a private sandpits in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 10 and 19.50 inches, bluegill up to 11 inches, and crappies up to 13 inches. We caught these fish using Strike King 3X Zulu, topwater plugs, jig head and 4-inch plastic worm, and ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with Berkley Gulp! nightcrawlers and 3-inch minnow. They were caught around points and flats near deep water next to weed beds and brush piles.

May 27, 28

I guided on Red Willow and we caught one Master Angler wiper at 29 inches, plus smaller wipers up to 22 inches, walleyes up to 22 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, a crappie about 12 inches, and a channel catfish around two pounds. They were caught around main lake points, underwater humps, and flats next to the creek channels. We caught them on ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jigs with Berkley Gulp! (minnows, minnow grubs, leeches, and nightcrawlers), Crankbaits, and Lytle's Secret Lure. The surface water temperature dropped to the mid 60s due to the cooler weather and rain we had the last few days. Click to view photos from this trip.

May 26

I guided on Swanson Reservoir and we caught six Master Angler wipers ( 29", 27.50", two 27", 25", and 24.50"). We also caught smaller wipers up to 22 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, walleyes between 17 and 20 inches, and a channel catfish about 22 inches. We caught these fish using crankbaits, topwater plugs, Lytle's Secret Lures, and a Carolina Rig with live bait. They were caught around points, underwater humps, and next to a underwater roadbeds. May 25

I guided on Swanson Reservoir in the morning and in Red Willow late in the afternoon. We caught four Master Angler wipers (29.50", 29", 27", and 24.50"), plus smaller wipers, white bass up to 13 inches, walleyes up to 18 inches, and one small channel catfish. We caught these fish on crankbaits and Carolina Rigs with live bait around main lake points, flats, underwater humps, and next to a roadbeds next to deep water. Click to view photos from this trip.

May 23, 24

I guided the same clients both days (May 23 on Red Willow, May 24 on Swanson). We caught 12 Master Angler wipers (29", two 28.50", 28", 27.50", two 27", two 26", and three 25") and 2 Master Angler walleyes at 30" and 29.50". We also caught good numbers of smaller wipers between 12 and 22.50 inches, walleyes between 10 and 26 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, a 17-inch largemouth bass, and a 12-inch smallmouth bass. These fish were caught around main lake points, underwater humps, flats next to deep water, underwater roadbeds, and along the dam areas. We caught them on topwater plugs, crankbaits, Strike King 3X Zulu, Lytle's Secret Lure, ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jigs with Berkley Gulp! May 22

I guided on Red Willow and we caught wipers up to 22 inches, walleyes between 11 and 22 inches, white bass up to 12 inches, a northern pike around 24 inches, and a smallmouth bass at 12 inches. They were caught on main lake points, flats next to deep water, and along the dam areas. We caught them using topwater plugs, Strike King 3X Zulu, and ReelBait Walleye Flashers Jigs with Berkley Gulp! leeches, crawlers, and 3-inch minnows.

May 21

I guided on Red Willow and we caught good numbers of walleyes between 11 and 21 inches, wipers between 13 and 22 inches, and white bass up to 12 inches. These fish were caught around main lake points, humps, flats next to deep water, coves, and along the dam areas using ReelBait Walleye Flashers Jigs with Berkley Gulp! 3-inch minnows, leeches, and crawlers, topwater plugs, and Strike King 3X Zulu.

May 19, 20

I guided the same female clients both days on Red Willow. We caught two Master Angler wipers at 28.50" and 27.50", plus smaller wipers between 13 and 22 inches, good numbers of walleyes between 12 and 20 inches, and white bass up to 12 inches. These fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits, Strike King 3X Zulu,  ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jigs with Berkley Gulp! 3-inch minnows and leeches, and topwater plugs. May 17, 18

I guided the same clients both days (May 17 at Red Willow, May 18 at Swanson Lake). We caught one Master Angler wiper at 25.50 inches, plus good numbers of smaller wipers between 12 and 22 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, and walleyes between 14 and 22 inches. These fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits, topwater plugs, Lytle's Secret Lures, lipless crankbaits, Strike King 3X Zulu, and ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jigs with a Cabela's 3-inch Recoil Grub. May 16

I guided on Red Willow today. We caught one Master Angler wiper at 27.50", plus good numbers of smaller wipers between 12 and 21.50 inches, white bass between 9 and 12 inches, 6 keeper walleyes between 15 and 17 inches and smaller non keeper walleyes, a few smallmouth bass up to 12 inches, and a northern pike around 25 inches. We caught these fish on suspending jerkbaits, crankbaits, topwater plugs, and Strike King 3X Zulas (Soft Jerkbait) around points, humps, coves, and along the dam areas. May 15

I took two fly fishermen to Red Willow, and we went t0 Swanson in the late afternoon. We caught wipers between 13 and 22.50 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, a 21-inch walleye, a 19-inch largemouth bass, and a smallmouth bass around 12 inches. One of the my clients lost a nice Master Angler-size wiper (over ten pounds) that we saw break his fly line. The fly anglers caught their fish using shad imitation flies, while used a suspending jerkbait around points, coves, and along the dam areas. The main lake surface water temperature is averaging around 60 degrees.

May 13, 14

I guided both days at Swanson Reservoir, and we caught wipers between 13 and 21 inches, white bass up to 14 inches, and two nice walleye at 26 and 24 inches. We caught these fish using Lytle's Secret Lures, suspending jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, bucktail jigs, and ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jigs with a Cabela's 3-inch Recoil Grub around points, flats, underwater islands and roadbeds. We also fished in deep water in the middle of lake and followed big schools of wipers and white bass that were chasing gizzard shad.

May 10

I took my chiropractor fishing at Enders Reservoir. We caught wipers between 13 and 20 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, and a 17-inch largemouth bass. We caught these fish using suspending jerkbaits and Strike King 3X Zula Toos around main lake points, flats, and next to the dam Areas. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s.

May 9

I guided the same clients from yesterday on Swanson Lake, and we caught 9 Master Angler wipers (31", 29.50", 28.50", 26, two 25", and three 24.50") and a Master Angler Walleye at 28.25 inches. We also caught good numbers of smaller wipers between 13 and 22 inches, and white bass between 10 and 14 inches. These fish were caught on jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, Lytle's Secret Lure, Strike King 3X Zula Too, and topwater plugs. They were caught around points, flats, next to an underwater road bed, and along the dam areas. May 8

I guided on Red Willow Lake and we caught three Master Angler wipers (27", 26", and 25"), plus good numbers of smaller wipers between 12 and 22 inches, and white bass up to 11 inches. These fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, Lytle's Secret Lures, and topwater plugs around points, back in coves, and along the dam areas. May 7

I guided on Red Willow Lake and we caught good numbers of wipers up to 20 inches, white bass up to 12 inches, a few keeper walleyes, and a northern pike about 30 inches long. The fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits around main lake points, flats next to deep water, mouths of coves, and a few back in a large cove. The surface water temperature on the main lake is in the upper 50s.

May 6

I guided on Red Willow Lake and we caught good numbers of wipers up to 20 inches, white bass up to 12 inches, a few keeper walleyes, and a northern pike about 30 inches long. They were caught on suspending jerkbaits around main lake points, flats next to deep water, mouths of coves, and a few back in a large cove. The surface water temperature on the main lake is in the upper 50s.

May 5

I took my chiropractor fishing at Medicine Creek Lake (Harry Strunk). We caught good numbers of wipers between 15 and 19 inches, six walleyes between 15 and 16 inches, white bass up to 13 inches, and one largemouth bass about 13 inches. Most of these fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits, and a few on a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch minnow, and a spinnerbait. They were caught around main lake points, mouths of coves, underwater humps, and along the dam area. The surface water temperature was in the mid 50s in the mid morning and by mid afternoon it got up to 60 degrees.

May 3, 4

I took a former college biology teacher and a doctor fishing at Red Willow Lake in the afternoon. We caught walleyes between 16 and 22 inches, wipers up to 18 inches, three northern pike (35", 30", and 27"), and a few white bass up to 13 inches. We were using suspending jerkbaits around main lake points, points next to creek channels, and points around mouths of coves. The surface water temperature is averaging around 53 degrees.

May 2

I took Larry Porter (Omaha World Herald Outdoor Editor) and John Kilpatrick (Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Biologist) to Swanson Lake to do an article and take pictures about the lake. We did fish for a few hours, and I caught a nice 24-inch walleye on a Lytle's Secret Lure next to a canal near the dam area. The surface water temperature was in the upper 40s to 50 degrees. In the late afternoon to the early evening hours, John and I went to Red Willow lake and caught walleyes between 16 and 19 inches, small wipers up to 17 inches, a few white bass and one catfish. We caught these fish on suspending jerkbaits around main lake points, and a creek channel that swings next to the shore near points. The surface water temperature was in the lower 50s.

May 1

My brother Rod and I fished at Red Willow Lake in the afternoon. I caught a 28.50-inch walleye, plus smaller walleyes between 18 and 21 inches, and a 17-inch wiper. These fish were caught on a suspending jerkbait and a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch minnow around main lake points and creek channel that swings next to shore near points.
