MARCH 2005

March 29, 31

I went to fish at a private sandpit in the late afternoon for a few hours. I'm catching largemouth bass on the new Rapala X-Rap (jerkbait) around underwater brush piles and edges of deep weed beds next to points. I also caught a nice 15-inch crappie on this lure that was suspending over a deep brush piles in 15 to 20 of water.

March 27

I went to Red Willow Lake in the mid afternoon. I caught one wiper at 20 inches on a suspending jerkbait (Rapala X-Rap) next to a main lake point, and a 33-inch northern pike on a homemade spinnerbait slow rolling it along a drop off halfway back in a cove. The surface water temperature is in the lower to mid 40s, and the water clarity is approximately 12 inches.

March 26

I took my son Jeremy fishing at two different private sandpits in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass (approx. 25 or more) between 10 and 17 inches and crappies up to 14 inches. They were caught on a dropshot rig using Berkley Gulp! 3" minnow, jig and plastic craw combo, and suspending jerkbait (Rapala X-Rap) around edges of deep weeds and underwater brush piles next to points.
