February 28

I went fishing at a private sandpit in the afternoon and caught crappies up to 13 inches and few largemouth bass up to 15 inches. These fish were caught on a dropshot rig using a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch Minnow around underwater brush piles next to points.

February 17-20

I went fishing at a private sandpit in the afternoon (My brother, Tim, went fishing with me on the 20th ). I caught good numbers of crappies between 7 and 13 inches, a few small largemouth bass between 10 and 12 inches, and one nice bluegill around one pound. The fish were caught on a dropshot rig with small plastic baits, and my brother was using a 1/16 oz. jig head with a Berkley Glup nightcrawler. Most of these fish were caught around underwater brush piles next points.

February 12

My brother Tim and I went fishing at Swanson Lake in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of white bass and fresh water drum up to 1.75 pounds, and 7 wipers between 3 to 5 pounds. We caught these fish along an underwater dike next to the river channel near the dam areas in depth of 18 to 26 feet. They were caught on a dropshot rig using a small plastic bait with the Lytle Secret Lure on the tag end of the line, jigging spoons, and Jigging Rapala. The surface water temperature is 34 degrees.

February 10, 11

I went fishing at a private sandpit in the afternoon and caught good numbers of crappies between 8 and 13 inches. These fish were caught on a dropshot rig using small plastic baits around underwater brush piles in deep water next to points.

February 3 - 5

I went fishing at a private sandpit (open water) in the afternoon. I caught good numbers of crappies between 8 and 12 inches and two largemouth bass at 17 and 13 inches. They were caught on the dropshot rig using small plastic baits around underwater brush piles in deep water next to points.

January 22, 23

My brother Tim and I went ice fishing at Swanson Lake. We caught good numbers of white bass up to 1.50 pounds, wipers up to 17 inches, crappies up to 13 inches, 12 walleye between 16 and 22 inches, and a few channel catfish up to 4 pounds. We caught these fish along an underwater dike next to a river channel and near the dam areas in depths of 18 to 22 feet using a small homemade jigging spoon. The ice is between 5 to 7 inches thick and is melting dues to the warmer weather.

January 21

A friend and I went ice fishing at Swanson Lake in the afternoon. We caught wipers between 16 and 19 inches, white bass up to 1.75 pounds, channel catfish up to 7 pounds, and 5 walleye between 15.50 and 19 inches. These fish were caught on a dropshot rig using a Tiny Shad Assassin with a small homemade jigging spoon on the tag end of the line. They were caught along an underwater dike next to a river channel in depths of 18 to 24 feet. The ice is averaging around 7 inches thick.

January 18-20

My friends and I went ice fishing at Red Willow Lake in the afternoon. We caught crappies up to 1.50 pounds, a few bluegills up to 8 inches, and one 10-inch largemouth bass on a dropshot rigs using a Tiny Shad Assassin with a small homemade jigging spoon on the tag end of the line. These fish were caught along a creek channel that swings next to the main lake points in depths of 16 to 22 feet, and around underwater brush piles next to a secondary point back in the cove in depths of 15 to 20 feet. The ice is averaging around 8 inches thick on the main lake and 10 inches or more in the cove.

January 14

A friend and I went ice fishing at Swanson Lake in the afternoon. We caught channel catfish between 2 and 5 pounds, white bass between 1 and 2 pounds, few crappies up to 13 inches, and one walleye around 18 inches. These fish were caught along a underwater dike next to a river channel in depths of 18 to 22 feet on small spoon and a dropshot rigs using a Tiny Shad Assassin. My friend caught a few on Jigging Rapala. The ice is averaging between 6 to 8 inches thick on the main lake.

January 13

I went ice fishing at Red Willow Lake for a few hours in the afternoon. I caught crappies up to 14 inches and a few bluegills up to 9 inches on a dropshot rig using a 2-inch plastic minnow with a small jigging spoon on the tag end of the line. These fish were caught in a cove around underwater brush piles in depths of 15 to 20 feet. The ice is about 8 inches thick in the cove.

January 10

I went ice fishing with a friend in the afternoon at Red Willow Lake. We caught crappies up to 12 inches and bluegills up to 9 inches using a small homemade jigging spoon tipped with Berkley Gulp! Maggot. We caught these fish back in a cove around underwater brush piles in depths of 12 to 20 feet. The ice is six inches thick back in the cove and unsafe (less than three inches) on the main lake.

January 7

I went ice fishing with a friend in the afternoon at Swanson Lake. We caught seven channel catfish between one and five pounds, a non-keeper walleye and one perch using a small jigging spoon tipped with Berkley Gulp! Maggot. These fish were caught along an underwater dike next to the dam area in depths of 18 to 24 feet. The ice is about four inches thick.
