APRIL 2005
April 30
I guided on Red Willow Lake and the
fishing was a little tougher today. The surface water temperature
dropped to the upper 40s to lower 50s, due to the cold rain, snow,
and cooler weather we had the last three days. We did catch eight
walleye between 18 and 22 inches, and two largemouth bass at 16 and
15 inches, and lost another dozen walleye due to being barely
hooked. They were caught on suspending jerkbaits and lipless
crankbaits around main lake points and a creek channel that swings
next to shore near points.
April 29
I went to fish at a private sandpit lake
for a few hours in the late afternoon. I caught good numbers of
largemouth bass between 10 and 18.50 inches around edges of weed
beds and brush piles next to points and drop offs using a tube bait
and a Strike King 3X Z Too.
April 27
My brother Rod and I fished at Red
Willow Lake for a few hours in the late afternoon. I caught a
30-inch Master Angler walleye that weighted 10 pounds, 5 ounces on
my digital scale, and a smaller 19-inch walleye. They were
caught around a creek channel that swings next to shore near a point
using a suspending jerkbait (Rapala X-Rap). The surface water
temperature on the main lake is averaging around 55 degrees.

April 25, 26
I fished at a private sandpit lake in
the afternoons for a few hours. I caught good numbers of largemouth
bass between 9 and 18 inches. I caught these bass along the drop off
next to weed beds, points, and underwater brush piles using a
ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch minnow,
tube bait, and jig and plastic craw.
April 24
My brother Rod and I fished at Red
Willow Lake in the afternoon. I caught a nice fat 29-inch Master
Angler wiper that weighted 16 pounds, 11 ounces on my digital scale.
We also caught seven walleye between 18 and 21 inches. The wiper
was caught on a suspending jerkbait (Rapala X-Rap) next to a main
lake point, and the walleyes were caught on the Lytle's Secret
Lure, Rapala X-Rap, and a ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with Berkley
Gulp! 3" minnow around a creek channel that swings next to shore
near points and flats. The surface water temperature is in the
mid 50s.

April 23
My brother Tim and I fished at Swanson Lake in the afternoon. We
caught wipers between 15 and 19 inches, and a 25-inche walleye.
These fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits, and a ReelBait
Walleye Flasher Jig with a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch minnow around points
next to deep water. The surface water temperature is in the mid to
upper 50s.
April 21, 22
I fished at a private sandpit in the afternoons. My brother Rod went
with me on April 22. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass
between 10 and 19 inches, and a few crappies up to 14.50 inches. We
caught these fish on a Lytle's Secret Lure, suspending jerkbaits,
and plastic baits along the drop off next to points, brush piles and
weed beds.
April 19
I took my chiropractor fishing in the afternoon at Red Willow Lake.
We caught two Master Angler wipers at 28.50 and 25 inches, plus good
numbers of smaller wipers between 12 and 21 inches, white bass
between 9 and 13 inches, and five walleye between 14 and 19 inches.
These fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits and Lytle's Secret
Lures around main lake points and flats next to deep water. The main
lake surface water temperature is in the upper 50s.

April 17
I took my friend fishing in the afternoon at Red Willow Lake. We
caught two Master Angler wipers at 28 and 27 inches, plus smaller
wipers between 12 and 20 inches. We also caught white bass up to 13
inches, and a 17.50-inch walleye. We caught these fish around main
lake points using suspending jerkbaits and the Lytle's Secret Lure.
The surface water temperature is in the mid 50s.

April 15
I guided on Red Willow Lake and we
caught two Master Anglers fish. One was a 31-inch wiper that weighed
close to 14 pounds and the other was a 30-inch walleye. We also
caught smaller wipers between 12 and 18 inches, and 3 more
walleye between 16 and 18 inches. These fish were caught on
suspending jerkbaits around main lake points, points around mouths
of coves, and underwater humps. The surface water temperature is in
the low 50s.

April 12, 14
I went to fish at a private sandpit lake
for a few hours in the late afternoon. I caught largemouth bass
using a suspending jerkbait, a Lytle Secret Lure, and a jig and
plastic craw combo around brush piles and edges of weed beds next
to points and dropoffs.
April 9
I guided on Red Willow Lake and we caught wipers between 12 and 18
inches and few white bass up to 12 inches. These fish were caught
around main lake points, points near the mouths of coves, and main
lake underwater humps. We caught these fish on suspending jerkbaits,
lipless crankbait, and a Lytle Secret Lure. The surface water
temperature on the main lake is in the lower 50s.
April 7
I took my chiropractor fishing in the afternoon at Red Willow Lake.
We caught small wipers up to 16 inches, white bass up to 12 inches,
and one northern pike at 30 inches. These fish were caught on
suspending jerkbaits around main lake points, mouths of coves and
the northern pike was caught back in a cove. The surface water
temperature is in the lower 50s.
April 2-4
My brother Rod and I went to fish at Red Willow Lake in the
afternoon. I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 22 inches. We
also caught wipers between 12 and 15 inches, and a few white bass up
to 12 inches. These fish were caught on Rapala X - Rap and Lytle's
Secret Lure fishing around main lake points, mouth of coves, and the
largemouth bass was caught by a underwater stump next to the drop
off that was halfway back in a deep cove. The surface water
temperature is averaging around 50 degrees.

April 1
My brother Rod and I went fishing at Red
Willow Lake in the afternoon and caught two Master Angler wipers at
28.50 and 25 inches. We also caught three smaller wipers and few
white bass. These fish were caught on the Rapala X-Rap (suspending
jerkbait) next to windy points near the mouths of coves. The key to
catching these wipers was to find gizzard shad in the area and
working the bait slowly. The surface water temperature is in the
upper 40s on the main lake and low 50s back in coves.
