APRIL 2005

April 30

I guided on Red Willow Lake and the fishing was a little tougher today. The surface water temperature dropped to the upper 40s to lower 50s, due to the cold rain, snow, and cooler weather we had the last three days. We did catch eight walleye between 18 and 22 inches, and two largemouth bass at 16 and 15 inches, and lost another dozen walleye due to being barely hooked. They were caught on suspending jerkbaits and lipless crankbaits around main lake points and a creek channel that swings next to shore near points.

April 29

I went to fish at a private sandpit lake for a few hours in the late afternoon. I caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 10 and 18.50 inches around edges of weed beds and brush piles next to points and drop offs using a tube bait and a Strike King  3X Z Too.

My brother Rod and I fished at Red Willow Lake for a few hours in the late afternoon. The surface water temperature on the main lake is averaging around 55 degrees. Click to view photos from this trip.

April 1

My brother Rod and I went fishing at Red Willow Lake in the afternoon and caught two Master Angler wipers at 28.50 and 25 inches. We also caught three smaller wipers and few white bass. These fish were caught on the Rapala X-Rap (suspending jerkbait) next to windy points near the mouths of coves. The key to catching these wipers was to find gizzard shad in the area and working the bait slowly. The surface water temperature is in the upper 40s on the main lake and low 50s back in coves.
