March 31
I went fishing in the afternoon for a few hours at a private
sandpit. I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 22.50 inches on
a medium diving crankbait (Bandit 300 Series). I also caught good
numbers of bass between 12 and 19 inches, and three walleye between
18 and 22 inches. These fish were caught on Bandit 300 Series
crankbait, Smithwick Suspending Rattlin' Rogue, and a lipless
crankbait (Yo-Zuri Rattl'n Vibe). They were caught along the
drop-off next to points, edges of deep weed beds, and around
underwater brush piles.
March 25
I went fishing at a private sand pit in the afternoon and caught one
Master Angler largemouth bass at 20.50 inches on a Berkley Gulp!
5-inch Sinking Minnow. I also caught good numbers of largemouth bass
between 11 and 18 inches using the Gulp! Sinking Minnow, suspending
jerkbait (Lucky Craft Pointer), and a lipless crankbait (Yo-Zuri
Rattl'n Vibe). These fish were caught around points, brush piles,
and edges of weed beds along the drop-off.
March 22-24
I went fishing at a private sand pit for a few hours in the
afternoon. I caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 13 and
19 inches, and five walleye between 15 and 23 inches. These fish
were caught on suspending jerkbaits, medium diving crankbaits, and a
dropshot rig using Zoom Super Fluke Jr. These fish were caught
around the drop-off next to points, brush piles, and edges of deep
weed beds. The water clarity of this sand pit is clear ( 6 to 8
feet).
March 21
My two brothers (Tim and Rod) and I went fishing at a private sand
pit in the afternoon. We caught good numbers of largemouth bass
between 9 and 18 inches, five walleye between 15 and 17 inches, and
a few crappies and bluegill up to 10 inches. We caught these fish
around points, underwater brush piles, and edges of deep weed beds.
They were caught on a dropshot rig using a Zoom Super Fluke Jr., a
jig head and Berkley Gulp! Nightcrawler combo, and slow rolling a
homemade spinnerbait.
March 20
My brother Tim and I went fishing at a private sand pit. I caught a
Master Angler largemouth bass at 23" on a dropshot rig using a Zoom
Super Fluke Jr., and a 30-inch walleye on a deep
diving suspending jerkbait (Rapala Husky Jerk). We also caught good
numbers of largemouth bass between 8 and 19 inches, and three
walleye between 15 and 18 inches on suspending jerkaits, a dropshot
rig using a Super Fluke Jr., and a 1/32 oz. jig head with Berkley
Gulp! Nightcrawler. These fish were caught near the drop-off next
to points, around brush piles, and edges of deep weed beds.
March 18
I went fishing at a private sand pit in the afternoon. I caught one
Master Angler largemouth bass at 20.25 inches and another 30 plus
largemouth bass between 14 and 19.50 inches, two crappies at 14 and
13 inches, and a 18- inch walleye on a suspending jerkbait. I also
caught another four largemouth bass between 15 and 18 inches on a
dropshot rig using a Zoom Super Fluke Jr. These fish were
caught near the drop-off next to points on the windy shoreline side
of the sand pit.
March 16, 17
I took my son Chris and his friend fishing at a private sand pit. We
caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 9 and 17 inches,
crappies up to 12 inches, fa ew bluegills up to 10 inches, and a
16.50 inches white bass. These fish were caught on a dropshot rig
using a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch crawler, a 3-inch Senko, or a 4-inch
plastic lizard, a jig head with a 3-inch plastic worm or Gulp!
crawler, and a 4.50-inch Smithwick Suspending Rattlin' Rouge, and
medium diver crankbaits. The fish were caught along the drop-off
next to points, around brush piles, and edges of deep weed beds.
March 15
My friends and I went to Sutherland Reservoir to fish the inlet in
the afternoon. We caught wipers between 12 and 17 inches, an 18-inch
walleye, two small catfish, and a small rainbow trout. They were
caught on a dropshot rig using a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch crawler and
shiners, and a Carolina Rig with a shiner.
March 13, 14
My brother Tim and I went fishing at a private sand pit, and we
caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 10 and 18 inches
and crappies between 9 and 14 inches. These fish were caught along
the deep drop-off next to points, edges of deep weed beds, and
around brush piles. They were caught on a dropshot rig using a
Berkley Gulp! 3-inch crawler, 1/32 oz. jig head with Gulp! 3-inch
crawler, weightless 3-inch Gary Yamamoto Senko, and 4.50-inch
Smithwick Rattlin' Rouge.
March 12
I went fishing at a private sand pit in the late afternoon. I caught
good numbers of largemouth bass between 12 and 17 inches, crappies
up to 12 inches and a few bluegill up to 10 inches. I catch these
fish on a dropshot rig using the Berkley Gulp! 3-inch crawler,
weightless 3-inch Senko, and a 4.50-inch Smithwick
Suspending Rattlin' Rouge. They were caught along the drop-off next
to brush piles, edges of deep weed beds, and points.
March 10
I went fishing at a private sand pit in the late afternoon for
about one hour. I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 23
inches, and a smaller bass at 13 inches, on a Smithwick Suspending
Rattlin' Rogue over a deep water drop-off next to a point. I also
caught crappies between 9 and 13 inches on a 1/32 oz. jig head with
a Berkley Gulp! 3-inch crawler. These crappies were caught near the
tip of a deep water point next to the edges of deep weed beds.
March 3-5, 8, 9
I went fishing at a private sand pit in the afternoon and caught good
numbers of bluegill up to 10 inches, crappies up to 14 inches, and
largemouth bass between 10 and 15 inches. These fish were caught on
a dropshot rig using the Berkley Glup! 3-inch crawler and weightless
3-inch Gary Yamamoto Senko along the drop-off next to underwater
brush piles, and edges of deep weed beds. I also caught them
suspended over deep water next to the drop-off using a 4.50-inch
Smithwick Suspending Rattlin' Rogue and on a float 'n' fly (a jig
below a bobber) tipped with Berkley Gulp!.
