SEPTEMBER 2003
September 28
My brother Tim and I went fishing at a
private sandpit in the afternoon. We caught largemouth bass between
14 and 19 inches, four walleye between 16 and 24 inches,
crappies between 12 and 15 inches, and one channel catfish at
approximately 26-inches. We caught these fish on a dropshot rig
using small 4-inch plastic worm with a ReelBait Walleye Flasher
Jig and Berkley Bungee Leech on the tag end of the line, and a plain
jighead and crawler in depths of 10 to 20 feet along the deep drop
off. I also caught another five largemouth bass between 15 and 18
inches on a lipless crankbait that were suspending over deep
water chasing baitfish up to the surface.
September 26, 27
I guided the same group both days, and
we caught good numbers of smaller wipers up to 18-inches and white
bass up to 13-inches on medium diving crankbaits and lipless
crankbaits. We caught these fish around main lake points and humps
next to deep water. The surface water temperature on the main lake
is in the low 60s and the water clarity is averaging around 8
inches.
September 23, 25
I went to Red Willow Lake for a few hours in the afternoon. I'm
still catching smaller wipers and white bass on crankbaits around
main lake points and humps. I also caught a 23-inch largemouth bass
pitching a 5-inch tubebait around standing timber back in a cove.
The surface water temperature is averaging around 63 degrees, and
the water clarity is 4 to 8 inches.

September 20, 21
My brother Tim and I went fishing at a
private sandpit in the afternoon. We caught 9 walleye between 18 and
26.50 inches using ReelBait Walleye Flasher Jig with a nightcrawler,
and a plain jig head with nightcrawler in depths of 15 to 25 feet
along the deep drop off. We also caught largemouth bass between 10
and 18 inches, crappies up to 15 inches, and two channel catfish at
36" and 25". I also caught a few largemouth bass on a topwater plug
(Sammy made by Luckycraft Company) and a lipless crankbait over deep
water where suspended fish were chasing baitfish up to near the
surface.
September 19
I guided on Red Willow Lake and we're
still catching smaller wipers and white bass on medium diving
crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, dropshot rigs and Carolina
rigs using gizzard shad. These fish were caught around main lake
points and humps. The surface water temperature is in the mid 60s
and the water clarity is 3 to 5 inches.
September 15-18
I went fishing at a private sandpit for
a few hours in the late afternoon and caught good numbers of
largemouth bass between 11 and 19 inches. I caught them on a
buzzbait and Mann 's Phat Rat around edges of weedbeds next to deep
water. I also caught them on a deep diving crankbaits (Bill Norman
deep diver 22) around underwater brushpiles and deep weedbeds.
September 12-14
I guided the same group all three
days at Red Willow Lake, and we caught two Master Angler fish - a
25-inch wiper and 22-inch largemouth bass. We also caught good
numbers of smaller wiper between 10 and 22 inches, white bass up to
12 inches, a largemouth bass at 18.50 inches, a smallmouth bass at
12 inches and two northern pike at 28 and 26 inches. The fish were
caught around main lake points, humps, and flats next to deep water.
We caught them on medium diving crankbaits, lipless crankbaits,
jigging spoons, and dropshot rigs with gizzard shad using ReelBait
Walleye Flasher Jig as a weight on the tag end of the line. The
surface water temperature is in the upper 60s, and the water charity
is between 4 and 8 inches.

September 11
I went to Red Willow Lake in the
afternoon and caught good numbers of smaller wipers between 11 and
20 inches and white bass up to 12 inches using medium diving
crankbaits. They were caught around humps, main lake points, and
flats next to deep water. The surface water temperature is 70
degrees, and the water clarity is between 4 and 8 inches.
September 8, 9
I went fishing at a private sandpit in
the late afternoon and caught good numbers of largemouth bass
between 10 and 20 inches using a Sammy topwater plug made by Lucky
Crafts, and burning a spinnerbait below the surface fishing along
a weed bed next to deep water.
September 7
I guided on Red Willow Lake and

bass, and a few smaller walleyes and channel catfish around humps,
main lake points, flats next to deep water, and along the dam areas.
