October 24, 25

I went to a private sandpit in the afternoon and caught two Master Anglers largemouth bass. One measured 21.50 inches and was caught on a dropshot rig with a 4-inch plastic worm. The other went  20 inches and hit a spinnerbait along the edge of a deep weedbed in 8 to 15 feet of water. I also caught four other largemouth bass between 14 and 18 inches on the dropshot rig in the same area as the bigger bass, a 15-yard stretch of deep weedbed.

October 21

I went to a private sand pit late in the afternoon to try out a new slab tailspinner my brother, Rod, made for me to compare against previous versions. I caught one 19-inch Master Angler white bass and one 17-inch largemouth bass in depths of 15 to 20 feet along the drop-off.

October 20

I took my son fishing at Red Willow Lake. We caught good numbers of crappies up to 12 inches on dropshot rigs using small plastic baits in depth of 20 feet or less around main lake points, secondary points in coves, and along the rocky bluff near the creek channel. We also caught good numbers of white bass up to 12 inches, one wiper at 18 inches, and one walleye at 21 inches on crankbaits and homemade tailspinners around main lake points and underwater humps in depth of 15 feet or less.

October 19

My brother and I went to Enders Lake and caught a few walleye between 13 and 17 inches and small wipers on jigging spoons and homemade tailspinners around main lake points in depth of 20 feet or less. The surface water temperature is in the mid 50s, and the water clarity is approximately 12 inches.

October 17, 18

I took my brother fishing at Red Willow Lake. We we caught good numbers of crappies up to 12 inches on dropshot rigs using small plastic baits in depths of 20 feet or less around main lake points, secondary points in coves, and along the rocky bluffs near the creek channel. We also caught wipers up to 22 inches and white bass up to 12 inches on crankbaits and homemade tailspinners around main lake points and underwater humps in depth of 18 feet or less. The surface water temperature is in the mid 50s.

October 16

I went to a private sandpit in the late afternoon to try out a slab tailspinner my brother made for me. I caught four largemouth bass between 16 and 18 inches, a 24-inch walleye, and a 19-inch Master Angler white bass in depths of 10 to 20 feet along the drop-off.

October 15

I went fishing with a friend at Red Willow Lake in the afternoon and we caught white bass up to 11 inches, one 22-inch walleye, and one 24-inch northern pike on crankbaits and my brother's homemade slab tailspinners. The fish were caught on main lake points and underwater humps in depths of 18 feet or less. The water clarity is about 15 inches.

October 13, 14

I went fishing at a private sandpit in the afternoon and caught good numbers of largemouth bass between 12 and 18 inches on Texas-rigged plastic craw worms, slow rolling spinnerbaits, and dropshot rigs with plastic baits along the edges of the weed beds in depth of 6 to 12 feet.

October 12

I went to Cedar Bluff Lake in Kansas to fish a Angling Nebraska bass tournament. My fishing partner and I placed 5th with three largemouth bass weighting 7.40 pounds. The winners had four bass weighing a little over 12 pounds. We caught them on jig' n plastic trailer combos and crankbaits worked around laydown trees and standing timber in coves and along the dam areas.

October 11

I guided on Red Willow Lake and we caught three Master Anglers fish including a 27-inch wiper and two largemouth bass (23" and 22"). We caught additional smaller wipers, white bass up to 11 inches, largemouth bass up to 17 inches, and one 15.50-inch walleye. The fish were caught on crankbaits and Cabela's Tailspinners, and my brother's homemade tailspinners, around main lake points and humps in depth of 15 feet or less. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s, and the clarity is about 12 inches.

October 9, 10

I guided the same clients both days on Red Willow Lake and Enders Lake and we caught white bass up to 14 inches, wipers up to 18 inches, crappies up to 12 inches, and one non-keeper walleye. We used crankbaits, jigging spoons, and Cabela's Tailspinners in depths of 20 feet or less around main lake points and underwater humps. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s.

October 7, 8

I went fishing at Red Willow Lake in the afternoon and caught good numbers of white bass up to 12 inches, wipers between 15 and 22 inches, and few a walleye between 12 and 20 inches. They were caught on main lake points and underwater humps in depth of 20 feet or less on crankbaits and 1-oz.  Cabela's Tailspinners. The surface water temperature is in the upper 50s.

October 6

I went fishing at Red Willow Lake in the afternoon and caught largemouth bass up to 18 inches, wipers up to 22 inches, and white bass up to 11 inches on crankbaits and spinnerbaits. They were caught around main lake points in depths of 10 feet or less. The surface water temperature is around 60 degrees on the main lake.

October 5

I went to Cedar Bluff Lake in Kansas to fish an Angling Nebraska bass tournament. My fishing partner and I placed 7th with two largemouth bass weighting 6.90 pounds. The 1st place team won with three bass weighting a little over 14 pounds. We caught jour fish on a jig and plastic crawdad combo worked around laydown trees and standing trees in a cove.

October 1

I took a friend largemouth bass fishing at Red Willow Lake in the afternoon and we caught one Master Angler bass (24.50") on a shallow diving crankbait. We also caught additional largemouth bass up to 18 inches on crankbaits and buzzbaits. These fish were caught around main lake points and mouths of coves. The visibility of the water is approximately 15 inches and the surface temperature is in the mid 60s.
