SEPTEMBER 2001

September 30
I fished at Enders Reservoir with my brother in the afternoon and we caught good numbers of white bass up to 1.75 lbs. and wiper up to 4 lbs on crankbaits around flats in depths of 8 feet or less. The surface water temperature was in the upper 60s due to the warmer weather. This moved the shad into the shallower calm water.

September 29
I guided on Enders Reservoir and my clients and I caught good numbers of white bass between 1 to 1.5 lbs. and wipers between 2 to 5 lbs on crankbaits, bladebaits, and tailspinners. We caught these fish suspended 10' or less over deep water with the bottom depth 20' to 25' around deep points. We also caught a few largemouth and smallmouth bass in the same locations. Water surface temperature is around 64 degrees and the visibility is approximately 12 inches.

September 28
I guide on Red Willow with clients and we caught two Master Anglers (1 wiper 25", 1 largemouth bass 20.5" on crankbait). We caught good numbers of white bass, largemouth bass, and 1 northern pike (30") on crankbaits, dropshot rigs and jigging spoons. These fish were caught in 15 feet or less of water around the main lakes points, underwater humps, and in coves. Water temperature is still in the mid 60s and the visibility between 6" to 10".

Good numbers of white bass and a few small wipers on small crankbaits and jigging spoons around mid lake humps in depth of 15' or less of less. Water temperature is still in the mid 60s.

I went to Red Willow in the afternoon and caught good numbers of largemouth bass (1 Master Angler at 20.5") on crankbaits in 10 feet or less of water around main lake points and secondary points in coves. Water temperature is in the mid 60s and visibility is about 8".

September 23
I went bass fishing at Red Willow with my son Chris and we caught two Master Anglers largemouth bass - 23" and 20.5". We caught a dozen more between 12 and 18 inches on crankbaits around main lake points and secondary points in coves. The water temperature dipped to 66 degrees after a cold front came through the night before. Visibility was four to six inches and seems to be improving.

Two were taken on a crankbait around main lake points, and the other two were caught  pitchin' plastic baits around trees in coves. I caught another dozen between 14 and 19 inches using the same baits. Also caught good numbers of white bass, wipers up to 23", and a few smallmouth bass up to 15" on crankbaits around main lake points and shallow underwater humps in depth of 10 feet or less. The visibility of the water is approximately six inches and the surface temperature is about 68 degrees.

September 18
When fishing at Red Willow Lake in the afternoon I caught good numbers of largemouth bass including one Master Angler (21"), white bass, wipers up to 22 inches, a few smallmouth bass up to 14 inches, and one  northern pike. Most were taken on crankbaits and a few on spinnerbaits around main lake points, secondary points in coves, and flats next to deep water in 10' or less. Went fishing at Red Willow and caught a lot of white bass, small wipers, and largemouth bass ( one Master Angler - 21") on crankbaits around main lake points and flats next to deep water. The surface water temperature is approximately 70 degrees, and the visibility of the water is about three inches now that the lake has turned over.

September 5-7, 9
I guided on Red Willow with clients and we caught 4 Master Angler fish ( 3 wipers - 24" to 25" and 1 largemouth bass - 21"). The wipers were caught on gizzard shad and the largemouth on a crankbait.  The lake is turning over with algae bloom and the visibility of the water is app. 3". Most of the fish are  suspending in all depths and are scattered throughout the lake, which make live bait tough to fish. We're still catching good numbers of white bass, small wipers, and largemouth bass on crankbaits around the main lake points and flats next to deep water. The surface water temperature is in the low 70s.
