APRIL 2001
April 27
I had a great guiding trip today at Red Willow. The water temp
was about 55 degrees, and we caught lots of largemouth bass (10" to
19") and northern pike (avg. about 30"). I caught one pike that
was 44" and weighed a little over 23 lbs. on a suspending jerkbait in
approximately 25 feet of water (fishing the mouth of a cove over submerged
trees). The best pattern was using a jerkbait around points at the mouths of
coves, and secondary points inside those coves.

Went fishing at Red Willow today and caught a lot of northern
pike (28in. to 34 inches) and largemouth bass up to 18 inches. Most of the
fish were caught on jerkbait. Water temp is in the low 50 degree range

My clients and I fished on Red Willow today. We caught 13
northern pike (26 to 35 inches) and 15 largemouth bass (13 to 19 inches) on
suspending jerkbaits fished slowly in 20 feet of water or less, around
main lakes points and secondary points in the mouths of coves. The
approximate water temp was 50 degrees.

You won't believe what I caught today. I fished hard and battled strong
winds, but I caught four big bass. The biggest
was over 9 pounds! That fish plus a 6.5 pounder were caught on a suspending jerkbait. The other two,
7 lbs. and 5.25 lbs., were caught on tube jigs.

Fishing has been great at Red Willow. The water temperature is
approximately 45 degrees. I've been catching a lot of wipers, largemouth
bass, and northern pike. Catching them in deep water (25 to 35 feet) on
jerkbaits and a dropshot rig with a plastic minnow bait such as the 3"
Baby Shad Assassin.
