WHAT TO BRING

Clients should bring sunscreen, sun glasses, rain gear, a camera, drinks (no alcohol!), and snacks. You may bring your own lunch, but if you don’t want to bother, you can take a break off the water for lunch at the Willow Springs Marina at Red Willow Reservoir, or Medicine Creek Lodge at Medicine Creek Reservoir. Talk with Steve about lunch when you book your trip.

Wiper fishing requires sturdy tackle in top working condition. Baitcasting and spinning reels with an excellent drag system, spooled with 10- to 14-pound test monofilament line, will be adequate for battling powerful wipers. Feel free to bring your favorite rod and reel if it’s up to the task. Otherwise Steve will be happy to provide the gear you need to enjoy your trip.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Steve works very hard to provide his clients with an excellent fishing and learning experience, regardless of their experience level. Here’s what you can expect from a day on the water:

- You’ll fish with live bait, lures or both depending on the season, what the fish are doing, and what you prefer.
- You’ll have a chance to catch a variety of trophy fish. Steve and his clients catch hundreds of Nebraska Master Angler award-winning fish each year.
- You’ll get in a full day on the water, unless you want to call it quits earlier. Steve will make arrangements with you for a starting time in the morning.

Steve practices catch-and-release, even on trophy fish, to help preserve the fantastic fishing in the reservoirs he guides on. He keeps a digital camera in his boat to get pictures of his clients, but he encourages clients to bring along their own camera.
