September 8-9

I fished at a private sand pit lake in the mid afternoon for a few hours. I caught a Master Angler largemouth bass at 21 inches, and good numbers of smaller bass between 13 and 19 ¼ inches. I caught these bass around points, edges of deep weed beds, and drop off next to deep flats in depths of 25 feet or less using 3-, 4-, and 5-inch flutter spoons, and 4- and 5-inch swimbaits. The water clarity in this sand pit is very clear and the keys to catching these bass was finding the large schools of gizzard shad suspending above the underwater structures and working the lures through them.
